Pastor Ibiyeomie rejects claims that Nigeria is becoming an Islamic State

Pastor David Ibiyeomiesparked the debate after talking about concerns about uncertainty, national unity and the role of religion in the future of Nigeria.

During a recent sermon, Ibiyeomie dismissed suggestions that Nigeria could be transformed into Islamic state, insisting that the country’s religious and ethnic diversity precludes such a possibility.

He argued that Nigerians from different regions and backgrounds will not abandon their beliefs or identity.

The cleric also expressed strong views on the country’s security challenges, asserting that the Nigerian Army possesses the capacity to decisively confront armed groups if given the necessary support and guidance.

He further questioned discussions of foreign security engagement in addressing Nigeria’s internal security problems.

The comments come amid ongoing national conversations on insecurity, terrorism, national cohesion and the relationship between religion and politics in Nigeria.

His words in part…

“All this agenda is to make Nigeria an Islamic nation and that can never happen. Are you telling me that they will convert an Igbo man or a South-South man into a Muslim? If the Nigerian army wants to wipe them out, they can do it in a day. And they have the power to do it. You brought the Turkish army to come and protect Nigeria? Thank you. We are not stupid!d. Nigeria will never be an Islamic nation. If they want to, they can take their share and leave, but this country will never be ruled by Islam.
