“She fainted after being asked to cook a few days after the C-section” — Lady shares a friend’s story

AND woman has recounted how her friend was rushed back to hospital after collapsing while cooking just days after undergoing a C-section at a teaching hospital in Nigeria.
The incident happened shortly after the new mother was discharged and returned home for postnatal care.
According to the report, the woman had barely settled down when her mother-in-law arrived at the omugwo and immediately raised concerns about food preparation despite the patient’s fragile condition.
The situation escalated when the mother recovered tried to meet the expectations of the household.
Coming home and rising tension
The witness described how the events unfolded shortly after the dismissal. “A friend of mine had just been discharged and came home weak from a c-section,” she said.
“As soon as she entered the house, her mother-in-law said that she was starving and told her to go and find something to eat for everyone.”
She added that the pressure to return to household duties came too soon after the operation. “She was still clearly weak, but quietly went to the kitchen to cook because she didn’t want any trouble,“, explained the witness.
Collapse and readmission to hospital
According to her, the situation seriously escalated a few moments later. “A few minutes later, she suddenly fainted and collapsed“, she said, emphasizing that the woman was immediately returned to the hospital and readmitted for further treatment.
The witness further said that the patient’s condition led to a change in her recovery arrangement.
“When she was discharged again, her mother came and took her home for real recovery,” she said, adding that her husband’s family later visited to apologize after months of recovery.
The account reflects recurring public conversations about postpartum care in Nigeria, with past debates, particularly during widespread social media debates in 2020, highlighting tensions between cultural expectations and the need for medical recovery.
Public reactions to similar stories continue to highlight concerns about maternal health support systems and the pressures placed on new mothers during recovery.
