“Something needs to be done as soon as possible” — Tiannah’s Empire raises concerns about hunger and insecurity in Nigeria

Nigerian fashion entrepreneur and founder of Tiannah’s Empire, Toyin Lawanisparked conversations online after speaking about the rising cost of living and growing concerns about insecurity in the country.
The fashion icon shared her frustrations as she reflected on the cost of buying suya, a popular grilled meat delicacy, and how the rising prices are affecting the daily lives of many Nigerians.
Concerns about the rising cost of living
According to her, she recently spent N17,000 on suya but only got a small amount in return, noting what she described as the worsening impact of inflation on households and businesses.
Her comments come amid continued public debate about the rising prices of food, transportation and more basic goods throughout the country.
Many Nigerians have taken to social media in recent months to express their concern over the economic challenges facing families and small business owners.
Speaking about the situation, she said:
“I bought Suya 17k and they gave me 11 square cubes, 5k can’t even cook soup for the family anymore, there’s no way your staff or anyone else is going to steal from you this time, something has to be done asap because people will soon start breaking into each other’s houses to steal.”
Public reactions follow the comments
The statement quickly sparked reactions from social media users, with many agreeing that the rising cost of living has put significant pressure on households.
Others took issue with her remarks about insecurity, discussing the relationship between economic hardship and crime.
The comments contributed to a broader national conversation about inflation, affordability and the challenges many citizens face in meeting basic needs.
