“They dragged me like a thief because I was trying to help” — Lady recounts the ordeal during the trip

AND lady shared a troubling experience she encountered while traveling outside Lagos, recounting how her attempt to help a distressed stranger almost got her branded as a thief.
According to the lady, the incident happened when she noticed a woman shouting in public about her missing mobile phone. The woman appeared visibly upset as she described the device she had lost.
The lady said she sympathized with the stranger and decided to give him words of comfort, hoping that the missing phone would eventually be found.
Accused after showing condolences
While talking to the woman, her phone became visible. She explained that the device happened to be the same model as that one describes the owner of the missing phone.
The situation quickly escalated when the shaken woman suddenly accused her of being responsible for the theft.
A crowd gathered in a few moments, and the lady found herself confronted by several people who believed the accusations.
She said that she tried to explain several times that the phone belonged to her and that she only approached the woman to help her calm down.
Intervention changes the situation
As tensions rose, a man stepped forward and urged those present to allow the accused lady to explain herself properly before any conclusions were drawn.
“But the part that still shocks me today is that she didn’t even apologize. She just looked at me and said, “Just go please, I thought I might have found my phone.” That was it. Don’t forgive. No explanation. Nothing.”
The lady noted that no apology followed the remark. She added that the experience was memorable because public suspicion quickly turned against her despite her attempts to help.
The incident sparked a debate online about the false accusations, crowd reactions and the importance of fact-checking before jumping to conclusions.
