“They shot my 66-year-old mother in front of my eyes” – a survivor recounts the horrific ordeal

A Nigerian woman has shared the painful moment her 66-year-old mother was allegedly killed by kidnappers while they were both held captive in the forest.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman, who was abducted along with her mother and assistant on May 9, said the kidnappers initially demanded a £200m ransom and continued to torture them whenever their families did not comply.

Narrating the ordeal, she said:

“They carried us from my mother’s house, me, my mother and my helper. They carried us straight into the bush. We hiked and hiked all night. During the day they would rest us, but at night we walked until we entered the forest.”

She said more families were later brought to the camp as the kidnappers continued to move them from place to place.

According to her, the tragedy occurred on May 15 after the kidnappers asked her mother and another woman for their ages before taking them with the 15-year-old boy.

“They were arguing about whether to kill them or not. Before we knew it, they shot. The bullet went through the other woman and hit my mom. We watched it all happen. I could still hear my mom praying before she finally gave up,” she added.

The lady added that the remaining captives were eventually released after her family reportedly paid a ransom of ₦11 million along with groceries and other necessities demanded by the kidnappers.

The heartbreaking story has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians sympathizing with the victim and calling for urgent action against the growing insecurity.
