James Barker was an American actor, film director and producer who was the executive producer of Love Island USA.
Barker began his involvement on “Love Island USA” in 2020, initially as a story producer. He worked as an executive producer on the series for the last three seasons, as well as a member of the production team of “Love Island” sister series “Love Island Games” and “Love Island: Beyond the Villa”.

It was an unglamorous job, but it gave him a fundamental understanding of how production works. He rose steadily from there, spending more than five years at Leftfield as a producer and story producer on several well-known cable shows, including Pawn Stars, Counting Cars and Forged in Fire.

He also believes that watching the original British version made it clear why music is so important in reality television. “It was really the first time I saw Love Island UK where I thought, ‘Oh, that’s just raising the level of reality,'” he said.
This realization, he explained, motivated him to work on the show. His DJ ear eventually defined the musical identity of a show watched by millions, and the two jobs, nightlife and television, were never truly separate in his thinking.
