Nigeria’s international hope Zadok Yohanna discovered it Brighton & Hove Albion’s experience developing young players played a major role in his decision to join the Premier League club despite interest from several other teams.
The 18-year-old winger recently completed a move from Swedish side AIK Stockholm after attracting attention with a string of impressive performances during the 2026 season.
Brighton have moved quickly to secure the youngster as part of the club’s long-term recruitment strategy targeting rising talent with huge potential.

Speaking to Brighton’s official website, Yohanna said his knowledge of English football helped him identify the right destination for his development.
“I watch a lot of Premier League games, so I know teams that use young players, and Brighton is one of them.”
The teenager’s rise in Sweden has sparked interest from clubs across Europe after showing his pace, attacking ability and confidence in one-on-one situations.
Brighton has built a reputation in recent years for giving young players a chance and helping them progress into regular first-team football, making the club an attractive option for promising talent.
The manager’s message influenced the move
Yohanna also highlighted the role of Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler in convincing him to switch to England.
According to the Nigerian winger, the conversation with the German coach strengthened his belief that Brighton is the best environment for his development.
“He called me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have and I really want to win trophies with the team,” said Yohanna.
Mladic admitted that leaving AIK Stockholm was not an easy decision after enjoying a positive period with the Swedish club.
“I had a lot of good people around me who took care of me. Everyone loved me, so it was hard to leave,” he added.
Yohanna is expected to continue his development in Brighton’s system as the club gradually integrates him into their plans.
His arrival adds to Brighton’s growing collection of young prospects as they look to strengthen their squad for the future.
