“You don’t need to go learn to be a mechanic” – a young soldier complains about the difficulties, he asks Nigerians to support the troops

A young Nigerian military officer sparked backlash online after speaking out about the challenges soldiers currently face, admitting he had considered leaving the profession altogether.

In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the soldier expressed his frustration at the hardships he and many of his colleagues are reportedly going through, saying the situation has become unbearable.

“The way I see it, if I didn’t do this business, I’d go back to my village and he’d stay. Maybe he’d go learn to be a tailor, a plumber or a mechanic.”

The soldier noted that many people may not understand what military personnel go through on a daily basis, noting that their lives are becoming increasingly difficult.

He also appealed to Nigerians to show kindness whenever they encounter soldiers in distress, claiming that many of them struggling with serious challenges behind the scenes.

“If any soldier asks you for money in this period, please give it to him. It is not easy for them in this period. It is difficult for them now because they are going through a lot.”

The video drew mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians sympathizing with the soldier, others questioning the state of welfare and support available to military personnel.

Many social media users also called on the authorities to improve the living conditions of security operatives who risk their lives protecting the country.
