“I never knew that free meals come with expectations” — Man told the NYSC story

AND man has sparked reactions online after recounting an experience he had during his year in the National Youth Service (NYSC) involving his landlady and her daughter.
The man explained that while he was serving, he rented an apartment where his landlady lived with her adult daughter.
According to him, his daughter often brought him meals, which he initially considered an act of kindness.
Over time, however, he began to notice what he described as subtle signs that suggested there might be something more behind the hospitality.
Frequent visits raise questions
The former corpsman said his daughter regularly spent time at his apartment, often staying up late to watch television with him. He noted that despite frequent visits, his the landlady never expressed any concern or objection.
As the situation continued, he decided to invite his then girlfriend, now his wife, to visit him. He believed that a visit would help clarify the status of his relationship without the need for direct conversations.
Explaining what happened next, the man said:
“I started to notice the signs. My daughter would come over, sit and watch TV with me until late, and my mother never complained. Not once”
A story about online reactions
The account has since sparked debate on social media, with many users debating whether the landlady and her daughter really had romantic intentions or whether the man misinterpreted the situation.
Others shared similar experiences involving perceived expectations associated with acts of kindness, while some argued that a sudden change in attitude after a girl’s visit indicated disappointment on one or both sides.
