Pastor Enoch Adeboye The Redeemed Christian Church of God said the federal government should consider a drastic security timeline that calls for decisive action against armed groups across the country.
These include a proposal to give security chiefs 90 days to remove terrorist threats or resign amid what he described as a national state of emergency in Nigeria.
The security debate is intensifying
The remarks reflect growing concern over ongoing insecurity in parts of the country where communities have faced repeated attacks, kidnappings and disruptions to daily life, prompting renewed debate over military and effectiveness and coordination of the intelligence response.
“If asked to make proposals, I will quietly tell our government to hurry up and tell our security chiefs ‘get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign’” he said.
Renewed calls for security reform
The statement comes amid a protracted national conversation about insecurity and echoes earlier discussions in 2023 and 2024, when religious leaders and civil society groups urged more aggressive counterterrorism strategies after repeated incidents of mass kidnappings in schools and rural communities.
The proposal sparked fresh debate among citizens, with some supporting tighter deadlines for security agencies, while others warned that structural challenges, intelligence gaps and logistical constraints could complicate the implementation of such a strict ultimatum as public expectations continue to rise across Nigeria.
