“I thought the slap was the worst part… until my husband spoke up” — Lady reveals why she left her marriage

AND woman has recounted how a family feud at her home in Lagos earlier this year led to the breakdown of her marriage after her sister-in-law assaulted her during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred at the couple’s residence when the husband’s sister visited and questioned the wife’s parenting approach.
According to the report, the argument began as a verbal exchange over parenting styles and escalated when a visitor hit the woman in the presence of her husband. What followed, she said, became a turning point in her marriage.
Conflict inside the house
The woman explained that the argument escalated after she asked her sister-in-law to stop interfering with her children’s upbringing.
Instead of intervening on her own behalf, she said her husband dismissed the incident and urged her to tolerate his sister’s behavior.
“She slapped my face and my husband just stood there. Instead of defending me, he said that I should stop provoking her because he knows her temperament.”
Later that night, she added, the sister-in-law demanded an apology for what she described as disrespect.
The decision to leave
The woman said her husband supported the request, an attitude that deeply affected her feelings security and belonging in marriage.
“That’s when I knew I was alone. I quietly planned my exit and left months later without a fight.”
Similar domestic family-related disputes gained national attention in 2023 during renewed public conversations about spousal protection and boundaries within extended families in Nigeria.
The woman’s story has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians debating marital loyalty, domestic boundaries and the responsibility of spouses to intervene during domestic conflicts.
