Konate’s move to Real Madrid after Liverpool’s departure has been confirmed

Ibrahim Konata is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Real Madrid via free transfer after the contract expires with Liverpool.

The France international is believed to be close to agreeing personal terms with the Spanish giants ahead of a proposed move to the Santiago Bernabéu when his Liverpool contract officially expires later this month.

Termination of contract negotiations with Liverpool

Liverpool confirmed on Sunday that Konate will leave the club at the end of his current contract.

Negotiations over a new contract were underway, but the discussions eventually broke down due to differences between the player and the club regarding his expected salary and his market value.

The successful spell at Anfield has come to an end

Konate leaves Liverpool after making 183 appearances in all competitions since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021.

During his time on Merseyside, the centre-back helped the Reds win the Premier League, the FA Cup and two League Cup titles, establishing himself as a key figure in defence.

Real Madrid continues the trend of hiring Liverpool

If the deal goes through, Konate will become the second Liverpool player in consecutive summers to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The move would follow the path taken by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left Anfield for the Spanish club last year, further bolstering Real Madrid’s squad with proven Premier League talent.
