“I will light a fire in your state” — Fayose calls for Wike’s arrest over comments amid Oyo State kidnappings

Political commentator, Isaac Fayose, has courted controversy following a viral video in which he linked recent uncertainty in Oyo State to political comments allegedly made by key figures.
Fayose stated this while reacting to comments surrounding the kidnapping of school children and teachers in parts of Oyo State.
Allegations linking the remarks to the Oyo kidnapping incident
In the video, Fayose referred to a statement he attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying:
“Wike said, I quote, he said, ‘I will light a fire in your state, Governor Seyi Makinde, I will light a fire in Oyo State’.”
He further suggested a temporal link between the political comments and the kidnapping incident, arguing that the attack occurred during a period of political activities in the state involving Governor Seyi Makinde.
Fayose said the incident coincided with preparations for a political declaration, adding that the timing was suspicious to him.
He also stated: “Three days ago, that same Wike taunted Governor Seyi Makinde that I told you I will set your state on fire.”
Claims of political influence and insecurity
Fayose went further by questioning what he described as a pattern of political threats and insecurity, suggesting deeper connections between past and present events.
He said: “Add 1 plus 1 plus 2 plus dates, add it all together, Wike’s boyfriend came on national television and said that maybe it was Governor Makinda who orchestrated the kidnapping. Are you following this story well? So that means, how can I even think so deeply?”
He also referred to the previous insecurity in Rivers State during Wike’s tenure as governor, arguing that the kidnapping incidents at the time were serious.
According to him, “That same Rivers state, when Wike was the governor, the kidnapping there surpassed the entire kidnapping within Nigeria at that time. Think, think, these politicians can do and undo.”
Call for investigation and public caution
Fayose criticized the alleged statements, insisting that the threats should not be ignored, especially in light of the recent violence involving children and teachers.
He stated: “Nigerians, we must shine our eyes, we must shine our eyes well. If I say we are a country where the law works, I am sure the DSS or the police are not calling Wike for questioning now.”
