“We will not surrender to terrorists,” Tinubu assures Nigerians

President It hurts Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will not bow to terrorism, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation despite the ongoing security challenges across the country.

The President’s message was delivered on Sunday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during the National Interdenominational Church Service held at the National Christian Center in Abuja as part of the 2026 Democracy Day celebrations.

The event brought together senior government officials, religious leaders and other dignitaries to mark Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule since 1999.

Tinubu acknowledges the difficulties

Speaking on behalf of the President, Akume noted that the government is aware of the economic and security challenges facing many Nigerians.

He said the administration recognized the impact of insecurity, kidnappings, displacement and economic hardship on households across the country and remained committed to addressing them.

Conveying the president’s position, he said:

The government is sensitive to all these pains, shares them and heard your cries.”

Akume added that the government approaches the challenges with compassion and a strong sense of responsibility.

Commitment to security and democracy

The president also used the occasion to pay tribute to pro-democracy activists who played a significant role in the June 12 struggle, noting that many suffered persecution, injury and even death in the struggle for democratic governance.

Speaking on the security concerns, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s determination to confront criminal gangs and improve the security of communities across the country.
