“Under Tinubu, insecurity worsened” – Peter Obi on Oyo school kidnapping, compared to Jonathan era

Former presidential candidate of the Labor Party Petar Obi has criticized the federal government’s response to the abduction of school children and teachers in Oyo State, saying more urgency and commitment is needed to secure their release.

Speaking during the interview, Obi expressed concern over the handling of the incident, arguing that the government’s response did not match the gravity of the situation.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was to personally lead the delegation sent to solve the crisis.

“The President should have led a delegation to Oyo. I think the Nigerian government is not showing enough commitment to rescue the kidnapped Oyo school children and teachers, and that is very worrying,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor also compared the current security situation to previous administrations, noting that school abductions have continued despite public outrage over similar incidents in the past.

He recalled how the international community reacted during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan when a major kidnapping occurred in a school, which drew widespread condemnation.

Obi further compared the performance of former President Muhammadu Buhari to that of the current administration, insisting that the situation has worsened.

“Under former President Buhari, in eight years, there were 10 kidnappings in schools. Under the current government, in three years, it has already exceeded,” he claimed.

The former presidential candidate argued that stronger leadership and greater commitment are needed to address the growing security challenges facing the country.
