official media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has become the center of online debate after rumors surfaced that he was arrested following an anti-insecurity protest in Abuja.
Speculations gained momentum on social media platforms shortly after the activist participated in the June 12 protest held in the Federal Capital Territory. The protests also attracted the support of Hollywood actor Emeka Ike, who appealed to the authorities to take immediate action on the country’s security challenges.
“Please don’t let this go too far. It could be your children tomorrow. Our children may not be there today, but somebody’s child is there. Please, let’s stop this killing,” Emeka Ike said during the protest.
As concerns about the alleged arrest surfaced online, human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju spoke out against the rumours.
In a brief statement shared via his social media pages in the early hours of June 13, Adeyanju dismissed the reports, saying:
“VDM was not arrested.”
The update quickly drew reactions from supporters and followers of the activists, many of whom expressed relief, while others assessed the wider significance of the protest movement.
