Rabbi Abubakar (born 7 April 1965 – 13 July 2026) was a retired Major General who served as the Director of Defense Information of the Nigerian Army under President Buhari from 2015 to 2017.

Abubakar entered the Nigerian Army in 1989 as a second lieutenant and held various command and staff positions, including the Joint Media Center Coordinator at the Joint Task Force Niger Delta Operations Headquarters.

He was also the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI) in Lagos and the Executive Director of Corporate Affairs for the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited.

General Rabe Abubakar was a Lieutenant Colonel in 2008, when he supervised the Joint Media Campaign Center of the Joint Task Force ‘Operation Restoring Hope’ in Effurun Barracks, Delta State. His hobbies include running, badminton and reading.

Abubakar was known for his work on issues such as the Boko Haram insurgency and as the chief spokesman for the Nigerian armed forces. He was later kidnapped in May 2026 and tragically died in captivity in June 2026.

Rabe Abubakar, died in captivity as a result of diabetes and hypertension. The Katsina State government announced his death, describing it as a devastating loss to both the state and the nation.

Despite persistent efforts to secure his release, the situation eventually culminated in this disaster. The administration expressed its sincere sorrow and condolences to his family, stressing the critical need for measures to combat banditry in the region.
