Chelsea confirmed the departure of Marco Cucurella to Real Madrid

Chelsea have confirmed the permanent departure of the defenders Marc Cucurellaand the Spanish national team member completed his move to Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old leaves Stamford Bridge after three seasons and returns to his homeland in a deal reportedly worth €55m, with an additional €5m in performance-related bonuses.

Real Madrid have given Cucurella a long-term contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2032.

The end of a three-year spell at Chelsea

Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2022 and went on to establish himself as a first-team regular.

During his time in west London, the left-back helped the Blues win the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

He also remained a key figure for Spain at international level and was part of the squad that won the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

Chelsea paid tribute to the defender after the transfer was completed.

“We wish him every success as he begins the next phase of his career.”

Real Madrid is strengthening its defensive options

With the move, Real Madrid add an experienced international defender to their squad as they continue their preparations for the new season.

Cucurella comes with significant experience in the Premier League and international football, having made his name at Brighton before earning a move to Chelsea.

His ability to operate as a left-back or full-back and strong defensive qualities are expected to provide added depth to new manager Jose Mourinho.

This transfer marks the end of Cucurella’s chapter in English football and the beginning of a new challenge with one of Europe’s most successful clubs.
