“I don’t steal” — Desmond Elliot reveals his kind of politics

Actor turned politician and Lagos State Member of Parliament, Desmond Elliotthe has stated that his style of politics is rooted in honesty, insisting that he does not steal while in public office.
Speaking during an interview, the representative in the Surulere I constituency reflected on his time in office, highlighting improvements in electricity supply and advocating for a more structured political system in Nigeria.
It states the improved power supply in Surulere
When asked about his biggest achievement as an MP, Elliot highlighted the improvements in electricity in his constituency.
According to him, Surulere used to be a difficult place to live due to poor electricity supply, but the situation has improved significantly in the past decade.
“I will say power. If you look at Surulere 10 years ago, it was a terrible place to live. Today, the electricity is one of the best you can find anywhere else,” he said..
The MP also emphasized the importance of maintaining an open door policy and reminded politicians that political duties are temporary.
“We will all die one day. We are not here forever. You are in that place for a reason, not because you are better than the next person. Trust me, there are much better people than you,” he said.
He talks about party loyalty and Nigerian democracy
Answering questions about whether he plays politics the right way, Elliot said he often questions the differences between politicians who switch from one political camp to another.
He mentioned prominent political figures including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, saying a change of loyalty does not necessarily make a politician different.
The lawmaker argued that Nigeria should consider developing its own democratic model, including a long-term national development plan that allows different regions to rotate in leadership while maintaining policy continuity.
“We have to define our own style of democracy. Let’s have, for example, a 30-year plan,” he said.
He says he sees no immediate alternative to Tinubu
Elliot also admitted that he currently does not see a political figure who can replace President Tinubu.
“I’m thinking, okay, who’s the next savior who can take Asiwaju out of what he’s doing right now? I don’t see it yet,” he said.
He further noted that politicians often understand the uncertainty of government and understand that political alliances can change at any time.
