“It is high time for an Igbo president” – Brymo talks about the unity of Nigeria

  • Nigerian singer Brymo is pushing for the presidency of the Igbo people in Nigeria.
  • He emphasizes the need for national reconciliation and unity.
  • Brymo encourages Nigerians to overcome the political tensions of the past.

Nigerian singer Brymo, born Olawale Olofooro, has said it is time for Nigeria to seriously consider the presidency of the Igbo people, calling for national reconciliation and a move away from past political tensions.

The controversial artiste, who faced criticism during the 2023 election period for comments seen as anti-Igbo, said Nigerians should “put the past behind” and work towards unity as a country.

However, he warned that the insecurity in the South East could affect the chances of an Igbo becoming president. According to him, insecurity has in some cases been “weaponized” by various groups across the country for political gain.

Brymo also praised President Bola Tinubu, claiming that he played a role in preventing the South West security initiative, Amotekun, from developing into a separatist movement.

Speaking during a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, he said;

“I think it’s high time Igbo became president. It’s time Nigeria started considering an Igbo presidency. Let’s let the past go and reconcile our differences and unite as a nation.”

“But how will we get there if the South-East is also slowly sinking into chaos? Whenever any group in Nigeria wants the presidency, they will start militancy. That is what happens. If you want the presidency, start with kidnappings and insecurity.

“One of the reasons I like President Bola Tinubu is because he stopped Amotekun from taking off. He didn’t support him. Imagine the Yorubas have Amotekun active, insecurity in the South East, Boko Haram active and South South militants, do we still have a country?”
