ASAP Rocky sparked controversy during his “Don’t Be Dumb” tour in Phoenix earlier this week after making comments that some fans described as disrespectful to women.
During his performance, the rapper, who has been in a relationship with global superstar Rihanna since 2019, addressed the audience and said:
“Thank God you didn’t know me when I was single because I’d fucking say you’re beautiful.”
The crowd responded with loud cheers, seeming to momentarily treat the remark as playful banter. However, after clips of the exchange circulated online, reactions became more divided, with many social media users and some of Rihanna’s fans criticizing the statement as inappropriate and disrespectful.
Rocky also appears to have reflected on his former lifestyle, suggesting that he would have been more flirtatious with the women in the crowd before starting his current relationship.
ASAP Rocky and Rihanna have been together since 2019 and have three children, sons RZA and Riot and their daughter Rocki. The couple has often been seen publicly supporting each other at major events.
Earlier this year, Rihanna attended the opening night of Rocky’s tour, although she was not present at the performance in Phoenix where the comments were made.
