It is high time that Nigeria consider the post of Igbo President – Brymo

Notable singer Come on said that Nigeria should start seriously considering the possibility of an Igbo president, arguing that the country must move beyond past divisions and embrace national reconciliation.
Speaking during a recent interview, Brymo stated that it is time for Nigerians to “let go of the past” and create a more inclusive political environment.
His remarks are significant as they come after he faced significant criticism during the 2023 election cycle for comments that many interpreted as opposition to the Igbo presidency.
The singer, however, expressed concern that the insecurity in the South East could complicate the election of the Igbo state president.
According to him, insecurity is increasingly becoming a political issue that some groups in different regions can use as leverage in negotiations and struggles for power.
Brymo also praised President Bola Tinubu, arguing that the administration’s handling of the South-West security force, the Amotekun Corps, had helped prevent it from turning into a separatist movement.
He said…
“I think it is high time for an Igbo presidency. It is time for Nigeria to start considering an Igbo presidency. Let us let go of the past and reconcile our differences and unity as a nation.
“But how will we get there if the South-East is also slowly sinking into chaos? Whenever any group in Nigeria wants the presidency, they will start militancy. That is what happens. If you want the presidency, start with kidnappings and insecurity.
“One of the reasons I like President Bola Tinubu is because he stopped Amotekun from taking off. He didn’t support him. Imagine the Yorubas have Amotekun active, insecurity in the South East, Boko Haram active and South South militants, do we still have a country?”
