Kidnapped Nigerian General Major Rabe Abubakar died in terrorist custody

The Katsina State Government has announced the death of a retired Major General Rabbi Abubakar while in the hands of bandits, characterizing the incident as a devastating loss for the state and the nation.
The announcement was made in a statement released by Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs.
According to the statement, the retired senior military commander died as a result of complications from diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.
The announcement stated, “The late retired general died of natural causes due to complications of diabetes and hypertension.”
The government announced that, despite the constant efforts of the state administration and security authorities to achieve his release, the situation has become tragic.
Mu’azu stated that the kidnapping and subsequent death of the ex-military officer was not only a devastating loss to his family and Katsina State, but a colossal loss to Nigeria.
Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda reacted to the incident by expressing deep regret over the death of the retired general, describing it as a tragic moment for the state and a stark reminder of the country’s security challenges.
The governor expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the soul of the deceased.
Radda also highlighted the commitment of his administration to cooperate with the federal government and security agencies in the fight against banditry and other types of criminal activities across the state.
He assured the people that officials would step up efforts to bring to book those responsible for the hijacking of justice.
He stated that the government is steadfast in its mission to eradicate banditry and protect lives and property in Katsina State.
The governor asked individuals to continue to provide credible information to the security agencies and cooperate in the further fight against insecurity.
The killing of the retired major general underscores the ongoing security problem in northern Nigeria, where armed bandits continue to carry out kidnappings, attacks on villages and other violent crimes despite ongoing military and security operations.
