“The VDM attacked them, and the bandits ran away” – a man recounts the chaotic scene at the Oyo protest

A man recounted what allegedly happened during a protest led by a social media activist VeryDarkMan in Oyo State for kidnapping students and teachers from Oriire.
According to him, the protest began peacefully as the protesters marched to the Oyo State Government House for a meeting Governor Seyi Makinde and demand immediate action to rescue abducted victims.
Recounting the event, he said:
“I witnessed what I have never witnessed in my life. What I saw today, I will tell my children and grandchildren. We joined the protest and everything was peaceful. We went to the governor’s house and the governor talked to us.”
However, he claimed that as the protesters were leaving the area, panic suddenly broke out after some people allegedly started shouting that armed men were approaching.
He said many protesters fled the scene as individuals carrying scythes, clubs and bottles allegedly appeared and caused chaos.
“People started shouting: ‘They are coming with swords!’ People started running, and I ran too. But the craziest thing was that VDM didn’t run. He faced them and fought back. When the protesters saw VDM and Kokopee charging back, they also turned and the thugs fled the scene,“, he added.
The account sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the courage shown by the protesters, while others questioned who allegedly sponsored the attackers.
The incident comes amid growing public concern over the kidnapping of students and teachers in Oyo State, with citizens continuing to demand swift action from the authorities to ensure the release of the victims.
