“They are not looking for Sharia law or money”

A new video allegedly released by terrorists holding abducted students and teachers in Oyo State shows a school principal, Mrs. Alamu, filing a new appeal and rejecting the circulating claims of the kidnappers’ demands.
In the video, the school’s principal said reports circulating in the media that the kidnappers were asking for money, Sharia law enforcement or weapons were false.
“Don’t complicate our problem” – the director
Speaking in an emotional clip, Ms Alamu said false information was making their situation worse.
“Please, I want to make some clarifications. Today is the 24th day that we have been in this place and it seems that some people are already complicating our problems,” she said.
She explained that they had been shown media reports claiming that the kidnappers had made several demands, including a ransom and Sharia conditions, but insisted that this was not true.
“They showed us some printed media where it was written that the people who kidnapped us asked to be released. They said they were looking for a billion naira. They demanded that Sharia be established in the country. This is not true. They’re just trying to create problems for us,” she added.
“They are not looking for Sharia or money”
Ms. Alamu further stated that the kidnappers did not force them to do any religious practice and did not make demands related to money or Sharia law.
“We have been here since we were not forced to worship in the Islamic way. They didn’t bother us about it. They are not looking for Sharia law. They are not asking for money. The only thing they are asking for is the release of some of their people,” she said. “I don’t know why they are playing politics with our lives. Nigerians, please help us distribute this. Let it go viral.”
“The only request is the release of their members”
In the video, she emphasized several times that the only demand of the kidnappers was the release of some of the detained members, which she said should be resolved through negotiations.
“All they want is the release of some of their people. The government will negotiate with them and know who they will release instead of them,” she said.
Conflicting reports on requests
The video comes amid earlier reports claiming the kidnappers demanded ransom, vehicles and Sharia law enforcement before releasing the victims.
