Undav scores twice to send Germany into the knockout stages for the World Cup against wasteful Ivroy Coast

Germany booked their place in the knockout phase 2026 FIFA World Cup after replacement Deniz Undav scored twice in a dramatic 2-1 comeback win against Ivory Coast.
The four-time world champions looked set for a frustrating evening after falling behind in the first half, but Undav once again proved decisive from the bench as Julian Nagelsmann’s side maintained their perfect start to the tournament.
The win follows Germany’s convincing 7-1 victory over Curacao in their first game and guarantees them progress from Group E with a game to spare.
Kessie takes control of Ivory Coast
Ivory Coast made life difficult for Germany and deservedly took the lead in the 30th minute through captain Franck Kessie.
The African side defended resolutely and threatened to grab a valuable result as Germany struggled to create clear chances despite dominating possession.

With time running out, Nagelsmann turned to his substitutes for inspiration, bringing on Undav and Nadiem Amiri to inject fresh energy into the attack.
Undav is a game changer
The tactical change paid off in the 68th minute when Amiri crossed into the penalty area, and Undav brought Germany to a tie with a composed finish.
The equalizer swung things in Germany’s favor as the Ivory Coast were forced deeper into their own half in an attempt to protect a point.
Just when the match seemed to be heading for a tie, Undav scored again in stoppage time. The winger scored the decisive goal in the 94th minute to complete the German comeback and seal all three points.
The result leaves Germany on six points from two games and safely through to the last 16, while Ivory Coast will need a positive result in their final group game against Curacao to keep their qualification hopes alive.
