According to her account, the incident occurred when policemen from the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) allegedly raided her street and picked up several youths who were playing football outside on Saturday.
Among those arrested is the brother’s friend, a 20-year-old who recently started learning to be a car mechanic.
She recalled that at first the young man’s family believed that they would be able to secure his release. However, they were reportedly informed that he had been identified as a cultist and transferred to Kirikiri prison.
The report has reignited debate over past allegations of wrongful arrests and human rights problems linked to SARS operations before the unit was disbanded.

The woman further claimed that she was the apprentice’s mother later visited the prison in an attempt to see her son.
“When I was growing up, SARS once invaded my street and picked up all the boys who were outside playing football on Saturdays.
Among them was my brother’s friend. He was only 20 years old and had just started learning mechanics.
When his parents went to post bail for him, they were told he was a sectarian and had been transferred to Kirikiri prison.
A week later, his mom went to see him. They told her he died of overcrowding.
Whenever I think of him, my heart breaks. He was innocent.”
