Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of World Cup star Yano Diomande

Liverpool remain determined to sign the Ivorian winger Yan Diomande despite increasing competition for the RB Leipzig forward after his impressive start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 21-year-old made his World Cup debut on Sunday and caught the eye with an energetic performance as Ivory Coast secured a 1-0 win over Ecuador in their Group E opener.
Sources indicate Liverpool see Diomande as their top target as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
However, there is growing concern at Anfield that French champions Paris Saint-Germain could enter the race if negotiations continue to drag on.
Success at the World Cup boosted Diomande’s stock
Diomande’s performance against Ecuador only increased interest in the winger, who is already regarded as one of the most promising young strikers in European football.

Liverpool have maintained contact over a potential transfer and are believed to be working on a deal with RB Leipzig.
Club officials are keen to avoid a bidding war, especially if Diomande continues to impress on football’s biggest stage.
Further outstanding performances at the World Cup could attract further interest from other elite European clubs, potentially increasing competition and his market value.
While Liverpool consider alternative options, Diomande remains their preferred choice.
The future of Gakpo remains uncertain
The Merseyside club are also monitoring other attacking targets, including French winger Bradley Barcola, if a deal for Diomande does not materialise.
At the same time, Cody Gakpo’s future remains in doubt. Reports suggest the Netherlands international could be open to a new challenge, with sources suggesting his long-term future at Anfield is not guaranteed.
Although Liverpool are not actively looking to sell the Dutch forward, the club would reportedly consider suitable offers after the World Cup.
The development comes during a transition period for Liverpool following the appointment of Andoni Iraola as head coach following the departure of Arne Sloto.
