“She sold my father’s property and cut us off” – Mr Ibu’s son accuses stepmother amid viral plea for help

A new drama has erupted in the family of late Nollywood actor John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibuafter one of his sons publicly accused his stepmother, Stella Maris Okafor, of taking over the actor’s assets and excluding his other children.
The charge comes soon after she made a public appeal for financial aidclaiming that it is difficult to take care of her children.
Reacting to the viral video, Okafor Somtochukwu, who identified himself as Mr. Ibu’s third son and fourth child, alleged that his stepmother sold several properties belonging to the late actor and kept the proceeds for herself and her children.
“Her children are not the only ones that Mr. Ibu has. He left behind a lot of children, both older and younger than her children. This is the woman my dad died from and left a lot of property and things for all her children, but she decided to take everything for herself and her children.” he stated.
Somtochukwu claimed that a house in Lagos was sold for ₦60 million, while properties in Enugu and Asaba were also reportedly sold after the death of Mr. Ibu.
He further stated that despite the sale, he received little or no support from Stella Maris and struggled to pay for his education.
“Even when I called her asking for money for my WAEC, she told me she didn’t have it. She didn’t answer my messages and didn’t pick my calls. The money Nigerians gave when my dad was sick, she ate it all by herself,” he added.
The young man also claimed that Mr. Ibu tasked Stella Maris with taking care of him before his death, but she allegedly did not honor his wishes.
The allegations sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians calling on both sides to clarify the allegations.
