Mary Njoku opens the story of the struggle with uncertainty and sleepless nights

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku has shared a message aimed at African Christians amid the ongoing challenges facing many countries across the continent.

On her Instagram page, the actress emphasized the importance of distinguishing between spiritual and practical matters. According to her, while prayer remains valuable for guidance and inspiration, social problems such as insecurity, poor infrastructure and inadequate health care require concrete actions, strategic planning, accountability and consistent effort to address them.

Njoku explained that prayer alone does not put food on the table, noting that individuals still have to engage in activities such as farming, harvesting, transportation and preparation before meals become available. She further referred to biblical teachings, noting that many examples of provision were achieved through people, work and deliberate action, rather than miracles themselves.

Addressing Christians across Africa, the actress encouraged believers to embrace both faith and responsibility, urging them not to confuse prayer with the practical steps needed to drive change and solve real-world problems.

Her words..

“Physical problems require physical solutions. Spiritual problems require spiritual solutions.

You can’t beg for food on your plate. Someone has to plant it, harvest it, transport it, cook it, or provide the means to get it yourself. Even in the Bible, provision often came through people, work, and practical actions.

Good roads, quality healthcare, education, security and economic growth will not appear just because we pray for them. Prayer can guide us, strengthen us, and give us wisdom, but physical problems must also be solved through physical action, planning, responsibility, and hard work.

“Dear African Christians, as we continue to pray, let’s not confuse prayer with action. You cannot bind and discard bad ways. You cannot rebuke a failing health system to work. You cannot drive out the robbers who terrorize our lives with prayer.

Faith and action are not enemies. They work together”.
