“Only God can end the insecurity in Nigeria” — says the State Minister of Defense Matawale

State Minister of Defense, Bello Muhammad Matawallahe said that ending insecurity in Nigeria will require both divine intervention and the collective efforts of citizens and security agencies.

The minister said this during an interview with BBC Hausa, where he spoke about the ongoing security challenges in the country and called for greater unity among Nigerians.

It calls for collective action

Matawalle stressed that insecurity remains a national problem affecting people despite political, ethnic and religious divisions.

According to him, Nigerians must cooperate with the security agencies to meet the challenge and not deepen divisions through political differences.

It is disheartening and we must all stand up to ensure that the security agencies and Nigerians work together to end insecurity in the country. Insecurity does not discriminate on the basis of political affiliation or religion. It can affect anyone,” he said.

The minister also criticized opposition figures whom he accused of using the security situation to score political points instead of supporting efforts aimed at restoring peace.

That’s why we called on the opposition to stop using insecurity to incite people… Unfortunately, some opposition members seem to be satisfied with the situation,” he said.

Concerns about misinformation

Matawalle further stated that old and foreign videos are circulating on the internet falsely presented as recent incidents in Nigeria.

“Only God can put an end to this insecurity, with our joint prayers and efforts. It must not be used as a means of judging others or scoring political points“, he stated.

He asserted that security operatives are working across the country to combat terrorism and other threats, noting that insecurity remains a global challenge facing many nations.

The minister’s comments have sparked a debate online, with many Nigerians debating the role of government, security agencies and citizens in addressing the country’s security challenges.
